Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has postponed a visit to Austria and Hungary planned for Sunday due to a possible Iranian retaliatory strike on his country.

His office announced on Saturday evening that the trip, during which Katz had planned to meet his counterparts in both countries, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok, among others, had been postponed "until further notice."

Military tensions in the Middle East have been growing for days.

Following the suspected Israeli airstrikes on Iran's embassy compound in the Syrian capital Damascus, in which two brigadier generals were killed, the state leadership in Tehran has threatened arch-enemy Israel with retaliation.
