Rocket alarms in southern Israel, greater Jerusalem amid Iran attack

Israeli rocket alarms have sounded in the south of Israel, the Dead Sea, the greater Jerusalem area and the north of the country according to the Israel Defense Forces, amid a large-scale drone and missile attack by Iran on Saturday night.

It was not yet clear whether any of the drones or missiles launched by Iran had hit their target, or how many had been intercepted.

And Israeli army spokesman said earlier that that Israel's defensive and offensive capabilities were at the "highest level of readiness ahead of this large-scale attack from Iran."

Iran launched many dozens of drones and missiles in an unprecedented direct attack on its arch-enemy. State media said that some were long-range ballistic missiles.

Tehran says its attack on Israel is an appropriate response to a strike on its embassy in Syria on April 1, which left two brigadier generals dead, among others.
