It didn’t take new Kentucky Basketball head coach Mark Pope long to get acquainted with students at the University of Kentucky.

Saturday night, a pre-recorded phone call was sent out to students from Pope. The phone call can be heard below:

Here’s what he said, correctly transcribed.

“UK students, this is your new head men’s basketball coach Mark Pope. I’m a proud alumnus. I love this school to the depths of my soul. I’m class of ’96, so I’m way older than your parents and your grandparents. This place changed my life and I’m honored to be here and lead this program. I can’t wait to get around campus to meet you. Your energy will matter to this team. Help us out, let’s go.”

Pope’s introductory press conference will be held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET. Admission is free and doors will open at 3:30 p.m.

Limited parking on High Street will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, limited concession options will be open (keep in mind Rupp is a cashless entity). Fans can enter via the main entrance of Rupp Arena off of High Street. Programming will start at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET with Tom Leach serving as moderator. You can watch on SEC Network+ or UKAthletics.com or listen on KSR affiliates, including 630 WLAP. Matt Jones will also do a “postgame” call-in show from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
