Chris Wilder says Sheffield Utd might actually win some games if everyone was as good as one Blades star

Sheffield United lost to Brentford yesterday but Chris Wilder believes wins would be more frequent if more of his players were like one squad member.

The Blades huffed and puffed at the G-Tech Arena but couldn’t find any quality in front of goal.

Eventually, United were undone by a stroke of bad luck for teenager midfielder, Oliver Arblaster.

Arblaster stuck a leg out to intercept a pass from Martin Damsgaard but looked on in horror as his contact with the ball found its way past Ivo Grbic in the United goal.

However, that isn’t to say that Arblaster wasn’t the star of the show once again for United.

Indeed, speaking after the game, manager Chris Wilder suggested that if more of his players played like Arblaster, then United might actually win some more games.

Chris Wilder lauds Oliver Arblaster

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Wilder lauded the performances of Arblaster, and admitted he is basically showing up the senior players right now.

“The players have got to catch up to him and I’ve said that to them because he’s taken to the Premier League like you’ve never known and is comfortable. He’s an incredible shining light for us all. We’re incredibly happy to have him,” Wilder said.

“The way he’s playing, we as a group need to catch up to him and show the quality that he’s showing in every single game in every aspect from an attitude POV, from a physical POV and more importantly just a calmness to play and accept that responsibility and accept that pressure. We’ll keep our feet on the ground with him and we’ll work with him, talk with him and the boy won’t get carried away but the players have to catch up to him because at the moment, if we did, it would give us a massive opportunity of winning games of football.”

Arblaster is expected to be the main focus when it comes to United’s midfield next season and based on his performances this year, should flourish in the Championship.

Wilder’s words on Arblaster are telling as well.

It is a message to the rest of the Blades squad that they should be at his level. And given Arblaster is just 19 and has played a handful of games in his career so far, it’s quite a damning assessment of his teammates from Wilder.
