Report: Sheffield United planning move for Tottenham 'superstar' ahead of summer rebuild

Sheffield United are making plans for the summer and could look to Tottenham to borrow one of the game’s top up and coming talents.

United are set for a huge summer overhaul which will see players leave the club and a number of new signings made.

The Blades have a big number of players out of contract and after admitting discussions over new deals were being put on hold, Chris Wilder has yet to fully decide on who he might want around.

Of course, some will stay, and some will go.

But the key to everything this summer will be who Wilder manages to bring in to improve the squad.

And according to a report from The Sun, The Blades could look to Tottenham defender, Ashley Phillips, as one of their big signings in the loan market.

Sheffield United keen on Ashley Phillips

According to The Sun, United are planning to use the loan market to full effect in the summer and want to take Tottenham youngster Ashley Phillips.

The teenager – lauded on Soccer Saturday as a potential ‘superstar‘ – is currently on loan at Plymouth and is excelling with the Championship strugglers.

Tottenham rate Phillips highly and beat off a number of clubs to land him last summer.

Previously at Blackburn Rovers, Phillips is already well aware of the rigours of the Championship and would have no issue in slotting into United’s defence.

The Blades are on the hunt for new defenders after injuries to a number of key players this term.

Chris Basham is unlikely to play again and John Egan suffered a season ending injury, while he’s also out of contract in the summer.

Likewise, Anel Ahmedhodzic could also leave in the summer after switching agents recently.

Phillips, then, could well be the ideal signing for United as Chris Wilder gets his summer revamp underway.
