'You don’t see that regularly': MLS manager in awe by what Lionel Messi did for Inter Miami last night

Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes was last night left in awe after what Lionel Messi did for Inter Miami.

The Herons returned to winning ways in Missouri with Messi playing a starring role for the Florida franchise, with the 36-year-old brilliantly assisting Diego Gomez before scoring a long-range screamer in the second-half.

With Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba all starting from the off, it was one of the strongest XIs Inter Maimi could have put out, with Inter Miami fighting valiantly to secure all three points in front of a 70,000 sell-out crowd.

And Sporting Kansas City manager Vermes was left impressed by one thing Messi did on the night.

Vermes in awe by what Messi did for Inter Miami vs Sporting Kansas City

Speaking to the Miami Herald, Vermes opened up about being in awe over Messi’s performance against Sporting Kansas City, with the Argentine international bringing a quality that’s never been seen in MLS.

When fit, there’s no denying that Messi is the best player in all of North America, and whilst this week’s performance against CF Monterrey was disappointing, the forward replied with a bang last night, much to Sporting Kansas City’s dismay.

Vermes said: “There’s a lot of games in MLS where you play back and forth. You play against other teams and they give up some chances, you give up some, but at the end of the day, the quality Miami has, if you just look at the first goal.

“The pass that Messi makes and then the second goal with the ball that he hits from where he hits it from. I think you all would agree that you don’t see that regularly in MLS and you do when you play against them. They can punish you and that’s what they did.”

MLS sides will struggle to cope with Messi’s brilliance

The brilliance of Messi is evident to see, with the 36-year-old attacker still one of the best on the planet and a player that has made fools of some of the best defenders MLS and North America have to offer this year.

And in the months to come, MLS teams will struggle to cope with Messi’s sporting genius, with the forward showing last night just how good he can still be with just a few magic moments.

Indeed, Messi alone can drag Inter Miami to MLS Cup glory, and against Sporting Kansas City, we saw what the Herons are capable of when the no. 10 is on top form and in full flow.
