'He was that good': Pundit says £54m Man City star could genuinely have had four assists against Luton

Don Hutchison has claimed that Manchester City had a player who could have registered four assists against Luton Town.

Considering City already defeated Rob Edwards’ side 5-1 on Saturday, the scoreline could have made for even grimmer reading for the visitors had one of the hosts’ players registered four assists.

Luckily for Luton Town, that was not the case.

But Manchester City were purring in both halves of the game, creating chances for fun and dominating the ball, making the Hatters look like relegation candidates.

Ahead of the contest, the threat Luton possessed was on the counter, as they have given several big teams a game in this manner but that was not the case against the treble-winners.

The Sky Blues seemingly aimed at minimising all possible jeopardy from the contest as they earned a perfect confidence boost ahead of their side’s clash against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Hutchison says one City player could’ve had four assists vs Luton

An aspect about Manchester City this season that has come under fire is that their attack has not looked at its brilliant best.

However, it took just two minutes for City to find a way through behind Luton’s defence.

While Erling Haaland fluffed the lines in a one-on-one situation, his acrobatic effort hit Daiki Hashioka’s face and flew into the back of the net in a truly freakish own goal.

After that, the likes of Kovacic, De Bruyne, Doku and Gvardiol added to the score sheet.

Off the back of scoring three goals against Real Madrid last Tuesday, Pep Guardiola’s men bagged five.

A certain attacker for the hosts caught the eye.

That was Manchester City vice-captain Kevin De Bruyne, who Don Hutchison believed could have clinched four assists against Luton.

“I thought Kevin De Bruyne was off the charts good in the first half, he could’ve had four assists. He put [Erling] Haaland through twice, [Josko] Gvardiol missed a header, he put [Julian] Alvarez through, [Matheus] Nunes he put through as well.”

“So, he could have easily had four assists, he was that good”, he said about the £54 million man. [via ESPN FC].

Hutchison is right about De Bruyne

In our view, Don Hutchison was spot on about Kevin De Bruyne, who only had his Manchester City teammates’ wasteful finishing to blame for not getting a single assist against Luton.

As previously mentioned, Erling Haaland had a standard one-on-one opportunity at the start of the contest.

De Bruyne put Haaland through with a stunning through ball but the latter’s second touch was wayward, which meant he was forced to shoot with his weaker right foot and he went on to miss a gilt-edged chance.

Later in the first half as well, Nunes struck the post after a glorious pass behind Luton’s backline from the midfield maestro.

Unfortunately, Gvardiol’s header in Haaland’s direction, which came courtesy of an inch-perfect cross into the box from De Bruyne did not lead to a goal as the Norwegian was pulled to the ground.

Overall, Don Hutchison is absolutely correct about Kevin De Bruyne having an outstanding game for Manchester City against Luton.
