'A highlight of this team': Manager lauds 'physical' Inter Miami player after 3-2 MLS win, alongside Messi

Inter Miami manager Tata Martino was full of praise for one player last night alongside Lionel Messi after yesterday’s 3-2 win against Sporting Kansas City.

The Herons were back to winning ways with a big win in Missouri that has taken Inter Miami back to the top of the MLS standings, with Messi’s performance winning praise from Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes.

With pundit Bradley Wright-Phillips also stunned by what he saw from Messi last night, the Argentine international enjoyed one of his games yet in Inter Miami colors last night in a result that will boost squad morale after a poor run of recent form.

Yet alongside Messi, Martino was quick to hand out praise to another Inter Miami player who arguably played a bigger role in last night’s win than the 36-year-old forward.

Diego Gomez lauded by Inter Miami manager after Sporting Kansas City win

Speaking to the Miami Herald, Martino was pleased with Diego Gomez’s performance for Inter Miami, with the Paraguay international scoring and assisting as well for the Florida franchise in what was another fantastic display for the midfielder.

Gomez has quickly emerged as one of Inter Miami’s most exciting prospects, and the 21-year-old South American showed in Kansas City why there’s a good chance that the midfielder could soon be heading to Europe this summer.

Martino said on Gomez’s display against Sporting Kansas City: “The performance of Gomez is a highlight of this team, all of his work in winning balls, he is understanding the game more and more.

“He has the physical and skills, and I do think he is a player who has already been noticed in Europe and surely will continue to.”

Inter Miami have a potential future superstar on their hands

Gomez has been highly rated for quite some time, yet this season has seen the 21-year-old take his game to a whole new level as part of Inter Miami’s new-look midfield and squad.

Martino has done well to get the best out of Gomez and to integrate the youngster in a team with so many superstars, with the Paraguayan not looking out of place in the slightest alongside Messi.

And for the Herons, they could now have a potential superstar on their hands in Gomez, who already looks like a safe bet to move to Europe in the summer having made quite a name for himself already in MLS at Inter Miami.
