‘World-class…’ Ian Wright blown away by Liverpool star v Crystal Palace today

Can you hear that? Arsenal Manchester City supporters are screaming with joy after Liverpool’s defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

If many were left shocked by Jurgen Klopp’s side suffering a defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday, well, they shot themselves in the foot again.

The same old story, Liverpool missed chance after chance, and after having the opportunity to move into first place in the Premier League table, they now remain in third spot.

Added to that, Liverpool’s goal difference is the worst out of the three title-chasing teams, with Jeremy Doku highlighting that after Manchester City beat Luton Town 5-1 on Saturday.

In truth, there can’t be many arguments, if you don’t take your chances, then you are going to get punished and you deserve what’s coming your way.

Not many players can hold their heads up high for the defeat to Palace, with Andy Robertson the only one getting his flowers from Ian Wright, as he told Premier League Productions (14/04/24 at 2:55 pm).

In the first half, when Virgil van Dijk slipped, Jean-Philippe Mateta was one-on-one with Alisson Becker, with the Palace man dinking the on-rushing keeping.

But that’s when Robertson did amazingly well because he, by an inch, cleared the ball off the line and it was a ‘world-class’ moment, according to Wright.

“It’s when Virgil van Dijk slips and I think Mateta doesn’t do too much wrong,” said Wright.

“Of course, it doesn’t go in, so he should have hit it harder. But the way he has got that over the keeper. He has had three really good touches here, to the point where the ball has slowed down well enough for him to dink it.

“Robertson has to get the maximum amount of credit for that because he hasn’t done much wrong there Mateta. But Robertson has made a world-class save.”

Andy Robertson a bright spark for Liverpool

The 30-year-old has had injury issues this season and fans haven’t been able to see the best of him, which has proven to be costly for the team, especially from a defensive standpoint.

But he was probably one of only a few players against Palace who performed.

The only thing Liverpool can do is move on and look towards their next game in the Premier League title race and Europe.

Plus, whilst fans will be annoyed by the Palace performance, Arsenal told them to ‘hold my beer’ by losing to Aston Villa hours later.
