'I really like': Dirk Kuyt says he is very glad Liverpool signed 'great footballer' last year

Dirk Kuyt has been praising a ‘great footballer’ who Liverpool signed last year in a recent interview.

As Liverpool’s history in the 21st century goes, Dirk Kuyt will probably go down as one of the most underrated players who has ever played for the club.

Kuyt was always reliable and worked his socks off on the pitch. He gave it his very best every time he wore the red shirt for Liverpool.

And he created some indelible memories while also scoring some very important goals for the club. He spent six years at Anfield, scored over 50 Premier League goals and probably had another couple of seasons in him if Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t have had different ideas when he took charge back in 2012.

What has Dirk Kuyt said about Dominik Szoboszlai

Recently, Kuyt has given an interview where he was asked about Liverpool’s Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai has been in great form since arriving at Anfield last summer from RB Leipzig. He has 12 goal contributions so far this season, which is a great return in his debut campaign.

But it’s not just through goals and assists that Szoboszlai has impressed. He’s also caught the eye with his insatiate appetite and work-rate on the pitch. Like Kuyt, he simply gives it his all every time he wears the Liverpool shirt.

So, it’s perhaps no surprise that Kuyt himself is a fan of the Hungarian. Speaking in an interview with Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport, Kuyt praised Szoboszlai and called him a ‘great footballer.’

“I follow my former club closely, recently I watched almost all Liverpool matches, and I can say that I really like Dominik Szoboszlai’s game,” Kuyt said.

“He’s a great footballer, a real individual, I’m glad Liverpool got him.”

What is Dirk Kuyt up to these days?

After leaving Liverpool Kuyt ended-up playing for Fenerbahce and then returned to the Netherlands to see out the rest of his playing career.

He then moved into management where he worked at Feyenoord’s U19 team, and also had a brief stint in charge of ADO Den Haag back in 2022.

Now he is managing in Belgium’s second tier at K Beerschot VA, where he has just helped the club to the second division title and earned promotion back to Belgium’s top flight.
