'Always': Oliver Glasner explains what Crystal Palace did in the first-half which really hurt Liverpool

The Crystal Palace boss has been speaking about how his team hurt Liverpool to cause a major upset at Anfield yesterday.

After all the highs this season had promised, Liverpool have very quickly fallen into a rapid descent. They are hurtling towards a very disappointing outcome come the end of the season.

With a defeat to Crystal Palace, Jurgen Klopp’s side have fallen toa second consecutive defeat at home for the first time this season.

With it Premier League title now seems to be slipping away from their grasp. Just as the Europa League seems virtually impossible to come back from as well.

Klopp’s team will have no excuses. They were really poor against Palace and Atalanta. They allowed both teams to score way too easily, and they wasted a plethora of opportunities at the other end as well.

Oliver Glasner on how Crystal Palace hurt Liverpool

In many ways Palace surprised Liverpool from the get go. They didn’t just sit back and defend, but they surged forward and created problems immediately.

Within just 15 minutes of the game, they scored their first goal, and then should have scored even more. Thankfully, good saves from Alisson and an incredible intervention by Andy Robertson saved Liverpool.

But it was to no avail. Simply put, especially in the first half, Liverpool found themselves in trouble more often than not.

Much of it was down to the way Glasner set-up his Palace side.

“I think in the second-half we didn’t have the ball for many minutes, but in the first-half we had a quick ball movement, playing quick, one or two touches, switch them from left to right,” Glasner told Crystal Palace’s official site.

“Because they always press, and when you have this, you get the gaps, you get the space. But it’s not that easy, and the players did it really well today.

“It was three or four situations where we opened the middle, where they could pass and turn, and then it was immediately dangerous.”
