Dragons' Den is 'best for business' compared to starring on The Apprentice, study shows

Dragons’ Den’s success stories were compared to businesses fuelled by The Apprentice, bringing the one-off pitch-based BBC show out on top. A study found the Den provides many more investments.

The Apprentice follows a line-up of contestants proving they’re fit to start a company with Lord Sugar. However, Dragons’ Den requires just one pitch in front of five investors, hoping they’ll make an offer.

Dragons Den success stories

Dragons’ Den has helped businesses grow to huge heights, such as The Wand Company, Dock & Bay, Gener8, Get Fussy, Positive Birth and mattress company Duvalay, as per a Business Name Generator study.

The company with the most success is The Wand Company, having grown from a valuation of £666K to £3.4 million today, selling a universal remote in the guise of a wand.

Dock & Bay closely follows at £1.9 million, from just £750K. The owners were seeking £75,000 for a 10% stake, managing to bag a deal with Deborah Meaden and take the business to new heights.

The Apprentice’s most successful biz

Ricky Martin’s business, Hyper Recruitment Solutions, has grown from £500K when he starred on the BBC competition to £2 million today. Ricky won season 8 of The Apprentice, securing a deal with Lord Sugar.

The company has since seen significant growth by 311%, resulting in a current valuation of £2,055,963. Ricky’s biz lands third place in the two shows’ most successful companies, scoring 25.60 out of 30.

‘Best for business’ goes to the Den

The Apprentice is the superior UK business TV show when it comes to producing the most successful companies. However, Dragons’ Den provides far more investments to the show’s stars.

With a total UK average score of 19.62 compared to Dragons’ Den scoring 13.65, the Den wins. The BBC show’s dragon, Peter Jones, once invested in the hugely successful Levi Roots’ Reggae Reggae sauce.

The multimillion pound business is one of Jones, who remains a shareholder and advocate for the brand, most successful investments from the show – but The Wand Company has grown the most!
