‘This has been a problem’: Mark Wilson says Celtic have an issue that’s unfairly haunted them all season

The title race that Celtic are in is a lot closer that most than most fans would have liked.

With Brendan Rodgers coming in and taking over a treble-wining team, the Celtic supporters would have expected the team to kick on and really have blown away Rangers and the rest of the Scottish Premiership.

There have been various reasons for that but many would agree that injuries have played a huge part in how our season has played out so far.

The fans have always pointed the finger at Celtic’s style of play changing under Rodgers but former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, believes that is hugely unfair. Especially at this time of the season.

Rodgers suffering from Postecoglou’s Celtic ghost

After Celtic’s win over St Mirren, Wilson was replying to a Celtic fan who was unhappy at the first-half performance of Rodgers’ side and the former Hoops fullback reckons that this is unfairly haunting the Celtic manager this season.

Wilson [Superscoreboard], “I really think this has been a problem for Celtic so far this season. People are over-analysing their performances even when they are winning easily.

“But there are a group of fans or supporters who will take the three points and there’s a ‘but’. There’s a ‘but’ all the time.

“You just need to forget about that. At this stage of the season, a 3-0 win is an outstanding result.

“But every performance doesn’t need to be analysed in comparison to what a peak Ange Postecoglou Celtic team was like.”

To be fair, the first-half performance by Celtic was poor. It was a far cry from what we witnessed against Rangers at Ibrox last Sunday.

The problem Rodgers has is that he needs to get his side to find consistency. That has been the major factor, alongside injuries, that has haunted Rodgers.

Once that get sorted then the ghost of Ange Postecoglou will go along with the unfair criticism being directed at Rodgers.
