'Strange': Dele Alli shares what found really weird about Everton vs Chelsea game tonight

Everton fans, players and the coaching staff will have been delighted to see the full-time whistle go against Chelsea, bringing to an end their 6-0 drubbing.

It was an embarrassing showing, in which nobody from the visiting side came away with any positives.

They were terrible from start to finish, and exhibited the kind of gutless, quality-shy display that would resign most clubs to relegation.

And with Nottingham Forest up next this weekend, it is a truly terrible time to receive such a hammer blow to only add to their misery.

Dele Alli, speaking to Sky Sports earlier tonight, offered his half-time analysis of the performance.

Dele Alli gives his summary of Everton’s loss

Having found themselves inexplicably four goals down at halftime, allowing Cole Palmer the freedom of the park as he strolled around to secure a simple hat trick, Sean Dyche’s half-time team talk was surely one filled with pure fury.

After all, there was not one player who covered themselves in any glory, and therefore all were likely on the end of the 52-year-old’s wrath.

Ironically enough though, he must also take some of the blame, as he hung them out to dry with his tactical setup.

Dele, speaking with Jamie Carragher and Dave Jones on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, would suggest that despite their emphatic half-time lead, his Everton side had not played too poorly.

He noted: ‘It’s been a strange game. I don’t think it’s 4-0. I don’t think there has been that big a difference between the two teams, maybe just in the final third.’

A dark night for Sean Dyche’s men

Having suffered their worst Premier League defeat in 19 years, Dyche has understandably come under fire.

However, the fact of the matter is, even if Farhad Moshiri wanted to dismiss the former Burnley man, the funds simply are not available to pay out his contract and then hire an ample successor.

Everton are stuck in their current position, and remain reliant on the gaffer pulling something out of the bag and reinvigorating his players.

Unsurprisingly, after tonight’s torrid showing, confidence is not high in that becoming a reality.

Although it is hard, all Evertonians can do now is hope for the best and pray that this weekend can inspire a better result in a must-win match.
