Roma's Ndicka discharged from hospital following collapse

Roma defender Evan Ndicka was released from hospital on Monday, a day after he collapsed during the Serie A match against Udinese.

Ndicka collapsed in the middle of the pitch in the 70th minute, clutching his chest on Sunday. He was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, giving a thumbs up on his way off to the applause of fans in Udine.

Roma said in a statement the 24-year-old appeared to have suffered a collapsed left lung. He would undergo further tests in Rome and had been discharged from hospital, the club said.

"AS Roma wishes to thank Udinese Calcio, referee Mr. Pairetto, the public present at the stadium in Udine and the medical and health staff at the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine for their great professionalism and availability," the statement said.

"In those frantic minutes of apprehension, we all together demonstrated sports values and placed protecting life at first place."

Sunday's match was abandoned following Ndicka's collapse. According to media reports, the team from the Italian capital did not want to continue playing.
