Antony shares recovery picture and two-word message as build-up to FA Cup semi begins, after mystery absence

Manchester United winger Antony is desperate to feature at Wembley this weekend after missing last season’s FA Cup final.

A late season injury against Chelsea at Old Trafford meant Antony was unavailable for Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley, a game the team lost 2-1.

Now as United return to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City, Antony is in an uncertain position.

He was not part of the travelling squad to face Bournemouth at the weekend, with the reasons for his absence unclear.

Antony working on his fitness

Antony is focused on ensuring he is fully fit and available for selection this forthcoming weekend when Manchester United face Coventry City.

He shared an image on Instagram last night with the caption, ‘New week’, displaying himself taking an ice bath at Carrington.

Ice baths are used by footballers to help recovery times, ease inflammation and to soothe muscles. Antony is pushing to get back onto the training pitch as quickly as possible.

Erik ten Hag selection decisions

Antony has had a difficult season, beginning it as a starter, by the new year he had lost his place in the team.

A goal from the bench in the quarter-final against Liverpool was a sign he can turn it around, and against Chelsea he put in his best performance of the season.

However, he was back among the substitutes for the league draw with Liverpool, and was not part of the matchday squad against Bournemouth.

It’s most likely he is on the bench against Coventry, but he will be pushing hard this week to impress his manager and earn a starting spot.

This process starts by proving his fitness. With two goals and one assist in the FA Cup this season, Antony will want to continue making an impact, and book a place in the final.
