The Kardashians and Chrisleys are two famous families who found huge success in the reality TV world. The Kardashians’ new season is set to arrive on Hulu on May 23, while Chrisley Knows Best is no longer on air. Before Todd and Julie Chrisley were sent to jail to serve time, the two hailed The Kardashians as their inspiration for success.
According to Todd Chrisley, Chrisley Knows Best was a show created for people to tune in to “feel good” and “laugh.” During its 10-season run, it certainly had that effect. But, nowadays, Chrisley fans have to stay up-to-date with the family via Savannah Chrisley’s Unlocked podcast. Reflecting on their reality TV stardom two years ago, Todd revealed how he and Khloe Kardashian were actually super “close.”
Chrisleys were likened to Kardashians
Speaking on Behind The Velvet Rope podcast in 2022, Todd explained how he and his family were approached about starting a reality show.
He said they were told: “You guys are the southern version of the Kardashians, you’re so beautiful and you’re so outspoken and funny.”
The TV star added how he never expected the level of success the show achieved as well as the shows that followed such as Growing Up Chrisley.
However, initially, when he was asked about starting out on TV, Todd said he wasn’t keen on “putting the family’s dysfunctional ways out on the front porch for everybody to see” given that they’re “from the south.”
He “agreed reluctantly to do a sizzle reel,” and at the time said: “Now I own a production company.”
Todd added: “They took it to 10 different networks and received 10 offers.”
Kardashians were the trailblazers
Chrisley Knows Best burst onto the scene in 2014, but before they rose to fame, The Kardashians had their own show on E! in 2007.
Talking of the famous family, Todd said: “I think that anyone that says that they have not been affected in some way by The Kardashians, it’s a lie. I love that entire family, they have been very gracious to us.
“I have never been around, have never met anyone that is harder working than those girls.”
Todd added how they would have a “look at the Kardashians’ level of success and how Kris Jenner has managed that and said ‘wow, I want to follow in her footsteps’, maybe not in every way but certainly in the way of navigating through the business side of it.”
Khloe is Todd’s ‘spirit animal’
Todd was clearly keen to take a leaf out of Kris’ book as his daughter, Savannah Chrisley, launched Sassy by Savannah, a makeup line, along the same tracks as Kylie Jenner.
When asked if he’d received any advice from the Kar-Jenners, Todd explained how he’s “very close with Khloe.”
He said: “I love her dearly and she is my spirit animal. I think she is the sweetest, kindest, most genuine human being and an amazing mother…”
Todd added how he commends Kris for how she’s “navigated the success and set backs” the Kar-Jenners have faced.
