Millions of euros in damage after Black Forest warehouse blaze

A fire in two warehouses in a town in the northern Black Forest on Tuesday has caused damage totalling several million euros.

Numerous mobile homes, tractors and other agricultural equipment were destroyed, police said. The owner of one of the warehouses in Keltern near Pforzheim, near the border with France, saw the fire and tried in vain to extinguish the flames himself.

The fire brigade, police, German Red Cross and aid organization THW arrived with around 50 vehicles and around 400 emergency personnel.

When the first of them arrived, the fire had already spread to the neighbouring warehouse. In addition to the vehicles and equipment, almost 2,000 bales of hay were also consumed by the flames.

The fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to a third warehouse and extinguished the fire.
