Siemens plans new university research centre near Munich

German engineering group Siemens said on Wednesday it would open a new research and innovation centre on a satellite campus of the Technical University of Munich.

In the first phase of the project, around 450 Siemens employees will work alongside some 150 scientists from the university, the company said.

A second phase with a further 630 researchers and patent experts is due to be put into operation at the site in Garching, north of Munich, in 2027.

Siemens is investing a total of around €100 million ($106 million) in the project.

The new site will be used for centralised research across the individual business units, Siemens said.
