'My goodness': Alan Shearer in shock after hearing the amount Chelsea have spent on agent fees in past year

Alan Shearer has now shared the shock he had after hearing the amount Chelsea have spent recently in agents fees.

He told ‘The Rest is Football’ that he was left stunned when taking into account the calibre of players the club have signed in the last 12 months.

Todd Boehly has not been shy to spend big money since taking over as Chelsea owner, with him seemingly not happy with the club sitting in the mid-table places of the Premier League.

They took their spending close to the one billion pounds mark last summer, with the highlight addition being Moises Caicedo for a club-record fee.

Big money was also spent on the likes of Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia, however injuries have had a major impact on the latter two’s first seasons at the club.

These big transfer fees have seemingly not come without having to pay the agents well in the process. A recent report stated that they had paid the most for those agents in the process out of any Premier League side.

Shearer was surprised at just how high this fee was, with him hinting that some of those agents have got more than they perhaps earned.

Shearer stunned at Chelsea’s agent fees

He said: “Am I right in saying at the top of that list is Chelsea with around about £75m? 70-odd million on agents fees? Whoever the agents are by the way, they’ve swam the channel because some of the players they’ve given Chelsea, my goodness.”

Out of all the signings they have made since the change of ownership, it is clear to see that Palmer has been the highlight addition.

He recently found the net four times for the Blues against Everton in the Premier League, seeing him move to the top of the charts as far as goalscorers go in the competition.
