Manchester United now handed new defensive injury boost ahead of FA Cup semi-final vs Coventry

The defensive ranks at Manchester United this season have been decimated through injury, but there might be a positive update.

Erik ten Hag has endured a pretty tumultuous campaign with awful performances and form leading to his job being on the line now.

While there’s no excuse for some displays, the injury list has been substantial with the defence for Manchester United rarely being at full strength.

This is the case right now with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw all out injured.

This has left just two fit centre-backs in recent weeks, with Willy Kambwala stepping up to become a starter over the past two games.

Harry Maguire has been alongside him, although after the 2-2 draw to Bournemouth, concerns were raised over his fitness.

Now, there’s been a positive update.

Manchester United handed injury boost

Heading toward an FA Cup semi-final this weekend against Coventry, United have finally got some good news regarding injuries.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Maguire is now expected to be fit to face Coventry on Sunday despite not being seen in training this week.

The 31-year-old England international was seen clutching his left thigh at points during the game at Vitality last weekend.

He was also seen talking with physio Richard Merron and club doctor Jim Moxon during the game.

However, his absence from training is said to have been a precaution and he’s expected to be available this weekend at Wembley.

This would be a massive boost for United heading into a massive game this weekend.

Maguire’s fitness is vital for United considering injury list

The injured list for United right now is long and concerning, with most of the players sidelined happening to be defenders.

Without Maguire, United would’ve been well and truly lost defensively.

The only options to replace him would’ve been players from the league-winning U18 side or maybe Casemiro to drop back into defence.

It’s a real sign though that this summer needs to see at least two new centre-backs join the club.
