Chelsea youngster who was wanted by Borussia Dortmund now signs new contract at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have been keen to tie down the futures of a number of their young talents at Stamford Bridge in recent years.

This will no doubt be a good sign for those involved in the academy, who will have feared the new approach from Todd Boehly and co was threatening to freeze them out of proceedings.

The American has been very keen to sign a number of young players before other top clubs get the chance, and this has seen a large amount of money be spent on transfer fees for players who are unlikely to feature for some time.

Nevertheless,a number of the Cobham graduates have got themselves loan spells this season, and one of those is Charlie Webster.

The teenager made his debut for the first team under Thomas Tuchel in the EFL Cup against Brentford, and often stated that he got a lot from training under the German.

He made the move on loan to Netherlands this season, however now looks to have committed his short term future to the club for now.

A story on the official club website shows him putting pen to paper on a one-year extension with the club.

There was a very realistic chance a couple of years ago that they were set to lose one of the most promising members of their academy, when a European giant. Borussia Dortmund were reportedly interested in his services.

It remains to be seen if following his loan away this season that Webster is given a chance to impress for the first team next season.

It may depend on who is in charge at the time, with there currently no promises over the future of Mauricio Pochettino as the manager of the club, with European football in the balance at this stage.
