22-year-old defender will be 'allowed to leave' this summer with Liverpool already in touch - journalist

It’s set to be a busy summer at Liverpool as they begin the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Although the Reds are still yet to finalise exactly who will follow their most successful manager of the modern era, transfer plans are already seemingly underway.

With Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards arriving, Liverpool now have an excellent recruitment team in place. As a result, transfer rumours have ramped up.

Whoever the new manager is will clearly need to upgrade certain areas of the Reds current squad. Having revamped the midfield last season, more work needs to be done this year.

Although we think the middle of the pitch could still do with some attention, the main focus this time needs to be on the defence. And with that win mind, Liverpool have now been linked with a potential solution.

Liverpool linked with Willian Pacho

In many ways, Liverpool got away without adding to their defence last summer. Although the likes of Goncalo Inacio were heavily linked, the Reds did no business.

Ordinarily, that might have ended up being a bad decision from Liverpool, especially when Joel Matip went down with a season-ending injury in December.

However, Jarell Quansah has really stepped up to fill the gap. Those inside the club may have been excited about the 21-year-old’s potential, but his emergence has been a genuine surprise. It has meant that Liverpool were well covered.

Nevertheless, with Matip on his way out and Ibrahima Konate a little injury-prone, the Reds now need to act. And according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg on X, Liverpool are already making moves to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho.

“Arsenal and Liverpool are still interested in Pacho and inquired about him. Eintracht Frankfurt is aware,” Plettenberg reports.

“The 22 y/o is allowed to leave Eintracht in the summer if someone pays between €50-60m [£42-51m] in transfer fees. This price tag has been set. Contract valid until 2028. Key player.”

Who is Willian Pacho

Having arrived at Eintracht last summer, Pacho has been a real find for the German club. He joined after winning the Belgian league with Royal Antwerp.

Before that, Pacho had come through the ranks at Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle. The same club that nurtured Moises Caicedo, Independiente have a real reputation as an elite talent developer in Ecuador.

Pacho has reportedly been in touch with Caicedo as he ponders a move to England and is a teammate of the Chelsea man in the Ecuador national team.

As a left-footer and still in his early twenties, Pacho does fit the profile for what Liverpool seem to be after. This is definitely one to keep an eye on.
