Penalty shoot-out defeat for Swaffham A against Hockering in County Cup

Penalties brought disappointment for the Swaffham A on Friday evening as they returned from the FDC Bowthorpe as runners-up in the 4Work County Primary Cup.

A fantastic crowd of 404 were entertained in a thrilling final, providing a great experience and atmosphere, rewarding all the players for their achievements.

Hockering took the lead in the 27th minute and it took until the mid-point of the second half for Will Butters to restore the balance, lobbing the keeper from the corner of the 18-yard area.

Despite efforts at both ends of the pitch, the teams were even after 90 minutes and the result was determined by penalties. A superb second penalty save by Pedlars keeper Jon Cockerill was not enough to secure the shoot-out, Swaffham going out by two misses, 4-2 the final result.

Pedlars A still have the opportunity to pick up silverware, already having secured a place in the Pease League Cup final and having reached the semi-final of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup.

The Reserves had their reward on the road to Long Stratton, Joe Minns with the only goal of the game clinching the points. This weekend is their final league fixture away to Scole United Reserves.
