‘Ridiculous’: Danny Murphy says Man City-owned player did something very silly last night

Danny Murphy has said that one player currently owned by Manchester City did something very silly in his latest match.

During the previous summer transfer window, numerous players made moves out of the club on permanent and temporary deals.

Now though, one player who joined another club on loan from City last summer has caught the attention of one pundit, but not for the reason he would have liked.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy had this to say on the subject of Barcelona’s recent 4-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and the penalty Joao Cancelo gave away in the second half which Kylian Mbappe scored to put the French side 3-1 up on the night and 5-4 up on aggregate.

He said: “Cancelo’s tackle was ridiculous. They’re individual errors, you’ve got to defend better.”

The Portuguese international joined Barcelona on a season-long loan deal from City during the previous summer transfer window

Since joining Xavi’s side, the 29-year-old has made 35 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League, scoring four goals and supplying four assists.

Joao Cancelo had a night to forget after Paris Saint-Germain defeat

Looking back over Tuesday’s defeat against PSG, with his side 2-1 down and a man down, Cancelo gave away the penalty after making a mistimed lunging challenge on former Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

With Mbappe then putting that penalty away and adding another goal in the 89th minute to knock Barcelona out of the Champions League, it’s safe to say that it was not a good day at the office for Cancelo in his latest outing for the Spanish side.

Now that Xavi’s side will end this season without a trophy, it’s hard to say that as a team, the full-back’s loan spell in Spain has been a successful one.
