A series of upcoming talks at a warehouse have been planned over the next month.
Marriott’s Warehouse Trust (MWT) has announced its series of ‘Pleasant Sunday Afternoon’ talks for this April and May.
MWT is a Lynn-based charity that promotes the architectural heritage of the town and is based in one of its historic buildings, Marriott’s Warehouse, dating from 1580 on the South Quay.
The Pleasant Sunday Afternoon talks all start at 3pm and take place on the second floor of the Grade II-listed building, where there is a lift available.
The next talk in the series will take place on Sunday, April 21 and is titled ‘Worktown – the Mass Observation Project’, delivered by retired teacher Jeff Hoyle.
Mass Observation was a social research project set up in 1937 which aimed to record everyday life and used the northern town named ‘Worktown’ as a base for their study.
This proved to be a fascinating piece of social research.
Jeff is well known at Marriott’s Warehouse because as well as being an entertaining speaker, he runs the popular coffee quizzes which take place monthly on the fourth Wednesday starting at 11am.
The talks are all free to attend, but donations towards the charity’s work are always gratefully received and there is no need to pre-book.
Anyone going along will also have the opportunity to see the wonderful scale models of the town’s most iconic buildings carefully crafted by local carpenter Fred Hall on the first and second floors.
Refreshments, including drinks and full meals, can be bought from the restaurant on the ground floor.
