Shouldham Entertainment Committee continues its programme of cultural events through Creative Arts East with the latest film screening of the very Norfolk documentary ‘Seaside Special’.
On April 26, Shouldham’s village hall is the venue once again for this funny and richly observed documentary set around the preparations for the annual ‘end of the pier’ show in Cromer in 2019.
Written and directed by Jens Meurer for distribution in Germany, it is billed as a “European love letter to Great Britain”.
‘Seaside Special’ follows the town of Cromer on the North Norfolk coast as it prepares for its annual end-of-pier variety show.
It was burlesque mix of song and dance, stand-up comedy, and slapstick performed twice a day for three months, in the summer of 2019, set against the tumultuous backdrop of clashing views within the community over Brexit.
But far being laden with dreary depictions of conflicts around that momentous decision, it shows, with love and laughter, how ordinary people simply manage to get on and get by.
