Son of GOP megadonor snubs Trump and gives nearly $1M to Biden reelection effort

David Ellison, son of Republican megadonor Larry Ellison, has contributed $929,600 to support President Joe Biden's reelection, marking a significant cross-party donation.

The contribution, made in February, ties him with other major donors this quarter, such as attorney George Conway and Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, CNBC reported this week.

Ellison, CEO of Skydance Media, made the donation through the Biden Victory Fund, which supports Biden's campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and various state parties. This is the largest amount he has ever donated to a federal candidate, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Ellison's company is behind blockbuster movies like Top Gun: Maverick.

Charles Myers, former vice chairman at Evercore and a Biden campaign bundler, emphasized the significance of Ellison's donation given his family's Republican ties.

"It's as impactful as if one of the Soros sons started writing huge checks to Trump," Myers said.

There is no record of Ellison's father donating during the 2024 election cycle, but he donated more than $31 million during the 2022 congressional midterms.
