King’s Lynn Bowls Club celebrates 50th anniversary

West Norfolk Deputy Mayor Paul Bland joined more than 80 members of the King’s Lynn Bowls Club on Saturday to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

Joining the players for a champagne Spider competition, the Deputy Mayor bowled his first-ever wood to the delight of his fellow competitors.

The club, with over 120 members, with ages ranging from 13 to 93 years old, and meets twice a week for social roll-ups with league matches taking place five evenings a week.

The day was a great success with entertainment from ‘Your Choir’ and ‘The Fun Loving Ukuleles’.

This was just the first of many celebration events this year. This Saturday, club captain Trevor Oakey and president Linda Oakey and friends will walk the 18 miles from Hunstanton Green to the Beulah Street Club house in aid of the president’s chosen charity MND.

The Deputy Mayor takes some tips from the club's oldest members.

The year’s outdoor bowling season culminates with a trip to Windsor to play a friendly against the royal household in September.
