‘Probably the best’: Michael Owen reckons Liverpool have a player who’s a better finisher than Mo Salah

Liverpool have perhaps the best attacking roster in the Premier League.

The Reds have no fewer than five fantastic attacking players at the moment, and it’s sometimes hard for Jurgen Klopp to choose who should start any given game for the Merseyside club.

As good as Liverpool’s attack is on paper, the goals have dried up for the Reds recently, and it’s fair to say their finishing has been off.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Michael Owen has been discussing some of Liverpool’s goalscoring problems, and he’s noted how he’s been surprised by one player in particular in the shape of Diogo Jota, claiming that the Portugal international is probably the best finisher in the squad.

Diogo Jota is Liverpool’s best finisher

Owen spoke about the striker.

“There’s a lack of confidence in front of goal at the minute and it’s showing. Again in this situation it’s Jota who I think is probably the best finisher in this Liverpool team, you can go either there or there, but you can’t play safe, you have to find the corners. Be cool, be calm,” Owen said.

Diogo Jota is usually deadly

Owen is right, in terms of being a natural finisher, Jota may be the best in the Liverpool squad.

Mohamed Salah gets more goals, of course, but that’s due to his incredible ability to get into the right positions time after time, but Jota is a player who usually scores if he gets any sort of sniff at goal.

However, as Owen says, Jota’s finishing was off at the weekend, and perhaps that is down to the fact the pressure is on at Anfield now more than ever as we enter the final stretch of the title race and the final few weeks of the Jurgen Klopp era.

Let’s hope that Jota can rediscover his scoring touch, because Liverpool need to be more clinical if they’re to win the league.
