The Czech initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine could deliver 1.5 million artillery shells within a year, stated Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala during his visit to the USA.
According to him, around twenty countries have joined the initiative, including Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, and Poland.
"We believe that more deliveries will follow. There is no reason, why we cannot deliver one million more in the next 12 months."
Ukraine is grappling with dwindling stocks of artillery and anti-aircraft defense systems as Russia intensifies ground operations and airstrikes, including bombings of energy infrastructure.
What is known about the Czech initiative
In February, Czech President Petr Pavel announced that his country had found 800,000 shells for Ukraine, but funding is needed for their transfer.
Czechia has contracts for the purchase of 180,000 shells for further transfer to Ukraine.
