Will Osula shares the biggest difference between the Premier League and under-21s after midweek hat-trick

Sheffield United striker Will Osula is one of the big success stories from another otherwise poor season this time around.

While United have struggled to come to terms with the Premier League and will surely be relegated in the coming weeks, Osula’s emergence has been a positive.

The young Danish striker was given his chance by Paul Heckingbottom and then Chris Wilder has continued that trust in him since coming back.

Indeed, Bramall Lane is awash with impressive youngsters right now.

The likes of Oliver Arblaster, Sam Curtis, Andre Brooks and more have all been in and around the first-team this season.

Of course, Osula is yet to get his first Premier League goal.

However, he did bag an impressive hat-trick for the under-21s in midweek and the big striker has been speaking to SUTV about the difference in playing 21s and first-team football.

Speaking to SUTV and when asked by Carl Asaba if he has to do anything different with his finishing, Osula admitted there is a big difference in playing the two levels.

“I’m not aware of anything I’m doing differently no. But I think in the 21s you get a lot more chances and you also get the chance to drive forward with the ball. I feel like in the first-team you don’t really get the opportunities to drive forward and I don’t really get to show what I want to do with the ball as much,” Osula said.

Fellow youngster Sydie Peck then backed Osula’s comments, describing the massive step up in class.

“It’s a massive jump from the 21s. I’ve obviously done the jump from 18s to 21s and then 21s to first-team and there’s a big leap between the both of them,” Peck said.

Big decision looming for United and Osula this summer

You would imagine with the squad being made thinner and the experience he’s had this season, that Will Osula will be an important player next season for United.

However, there remains an element of doubt about whether he is good enough for first-team football just yet.

Yes, he has shown promise, work-rate, and an ability to compete. But some fans will argue that isn’t quite enough just yet and he needs to hone his craft by going on loan somewhere.

A lot could depend on who United manage to keep and bring in. Should Oli McBurnie land a new deal and Daniel Jebbison also stay, then there might be a chance for Osula to go out.

However, as it stands, he’s right in the mix to play regularly and in fairness, he has earned that chance.
