Leverkusen send cocky Cockney post on X but then hastily delete it

Bayer Leverkusen sent a cocky Cockney post on social media platform X before hastily deleting it ahead of the clash with West Ham.

There was a touch of Lyon deja vu as Bayer Leverkusen goaded West Ham with a video message on social media ahead of the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final last week.

There’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance.

And West Ham are not usually a team to trifle with if you’re bringing the latter to the table.

So it’s probably not a good idea to give David Moyes’ men any extra motivation.

Bayer continue to goad West Ham

Lyon have found that out to their cost in the Europa League in the past.

And Bayer Leverkusen came within seven minutes of being left with egg on their faces after declaring ‘Ready to cook again” alongside a video of their 4-0 demolition of West Ham from pre-season.

West Ham almost held the German invincibles at the BayArena but were undone by two sloppy goals late on.

Victor Boniface then goaded Hammers star Mohammed Kudus by copying his celebration when he scored a killer second for Bayer in Germany.

Leverkusen’s cocky Cockney post is hastily deleted

Moyes’ side must score two unanswered goals to force extra-time.

Everyone at West Ham is hoping for a hangover after Xabi Alonso’s side were on the beers after sealing the club’s first ever title.

Perhaps there were one too many fine German ales consumed by those in charge of Bayer’s social media judging by their activity this evening.

Because Bayer Leverkusen have sent a cocky Cockney post on X but then hastily deleted it ahead of West Ham.

The post was nothing too bad but certainly a touch cheeky, especially given the huge level of respect shown by West Ham towards their opponents.

Bayer clearly felt it needed to be deleted, though.

Here’s what it said:

“A Cockney guide to Bayer04:

“Lay-va-koosen = Leverkusen.

“Bees and Honey = Money. e.g: Alejandro Grimaldo cost us zero Bees and Honey.

“Cuts and scratches = Matches. e.g: We are unbeaten in 43 Cuts and Scratches.”

Leverkusen deleted the post and then put up a much more mundane message saying: “London Stadium. Are we ready for tomorrow Werkself (the club’s nickname)?”

Some eagle-eyed West Ham fans managed to screenshot the post before it was deleted.

Well let’s hope West Ham can get two or three sausage rolls and make sure Bayer’s hopes are brown bread.

There’s no doubt we’ll need plenty of Friar Tuck.

But if we’re Lemon Tart and with Jarrod Bowen in contention then it’s not impossible.
