Unimpressed Arsenal fans react to club's eight-word statement after Bayern defeat

Arsenal fans have now responded to an official statement put out by the club in the wake of their loss against Bayern Munich.

Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

A 1-0 win for the German giants, by virtue of a Joshua Kimmich goal in the second half, was enough to secure them a 3-2 triumph on aggregate and dump the Gunners out of Europe’s elite club competition.

Three Arsenal players were blamed for allowing Kimmich to ghost into the box and power his header home, namely Gabriel Martinelli, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Declan Rice.

However, Mikel Arteta will surely be more frustrated by the fact his side offered so little at the opposite end of the pitch. The North London club were scarcely able to test Manuel Neuer, and never really looked likely to force their way back into the game after falling behind.

Arsenal make statement after Bayern Munich defeat

It is true that this Arsenal squad lacks Champions League experience. Few of Arteta’s men had featured in the competition on any kind of regular basis prior to this season. Many had never experience the tournament at all before. They will have learned an important lesson tonight, but that will do little to eclipse the disappointment of their elimination.

The Gunners must now restore their full focus to domestic matters. Gary Neville is insistent that Arsenal are still in the Premier League title race, but they must now show that they can bounce back from double disappointments, as they have now sustained back-to-back defeats against Bayern Munich and Aston Villa.

After this loss at the Allianz Arena, the Arsenal official X account posted a message to fans. The statement read, “A Champions League journey to be proud of,” accompanied by a red love heart emoji.

Many Arsenal fans felt that this message was misjudged. After all, the Gunners will have backed themselves to overcome Bayern Munich over the course of two legs, especially given the respective 2024 form of both clubs up to this point.

Jamie Carragher was convinced that Arsenal could beat Bayern Munich, and there is a strong argument that Arteta’s side failed to produce their best in either match.

Lots of Arsenal fans took it upon themselves to respond to this club statement. One supporter said, “Proud off. Nothing to be proud off. Failed every single trophy as usual.”

Another fan stated, “Thank you for breaking our hearts. It’s the same old story like every year. Please, we need Saka’s replacement.”

One supporter claimed, “Lets face it, we aint ever winning a Champions League or Prem without a 20-25 goal Striker and squad depth that is pure quality. You aint getting nowhere with Nketiah etc as your back up Striker. Too many injury prone players and mistakes in the big games cost us for years.”

Another chipped in with, “No it’s not, we were embarrassing, the whole performance was embarrassing. The players were embarrassing. Arteta was embarrassing.”
