'Awful' Bukayo Saka moment 'summed up' Arsenal performance during Bayern Munich defeat

One ‘awful’ moment from Bukayo Saka has been used to sum up Arsenal’s performance last night in their 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

The north London side crashed out of Europe as the Gunners lost 3-2 on aggregate to the German giants having drawn 2-2 last week at the Emirates Stadium, with Saka enduring what might have been his worst game yet for Arsenal.

It was a toothless performance from Mikel Arteta’s side as the Premier League giants only managed three shots on target, with Bayern taking their chances efficiently and showing Arsenal what it truly means to win a Champions League game this deep into the competition.

And one moment from Saka summarised the entire performance perfectly for Arsenal.

Saka’s last-minute corner highlighted Arsenal’s display vs Bayern Munich

As per Charles Watts, Saka’s last-minute corner in the final moment of the game perfectly summed up Arsenal’s performance on the night against Bayern Munich, with the England winger failing to beat the first man.

Watts wrote: “All over. Saka’s awful corner with the last kick of the game summed up Arsenal’s second half. They weren’t bad tonight in terms of their play, but Bayern never really looked troubled. It was a tight game, but Kimmich’s goal always looked like being decisive once he had scored.”

With Arsenal looking desperate in the final minutes against Bayern, it’s no real surprise that Saka rushed his corner in what was to be the final kick of the game, with the north London side showing their immaturity in such a big game.

However, the moment can serve as a learning point for Saka and the rest of the squad, who next year will be more experienced and mature when it comes to playing in huge European games like last night.

Saka will be kicking himself after ‘awful’ Champions League performance

Saka has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season with the 22-year-old establishing himself as a world-class winger for both club and country, yet yesterday was a day to forget for the attacker.

The England international simply couldn’t get going as Saka looked sluggish and fatigued against a Bayern side who were up for the occasional, a telling sign that the attacker could do with a break.

Yet despite that, Saka himself will be kicking himself for not turning up last night, with the forward likely looking to Saturday already as a chance to redeem himself and to get Arsenal back to winning ways.
