'Doesn't stop': Pundit suggests Arsenal 26-year-old didn't do his homework on Bayern Munich

Arsenal’s pursuit of the Champions League trophy came to an end on Wednesday night as they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich at The Allianz Arena – with Joshua Kimmich scoring the only goal of the game.

Following last week’s 2-2 draw at The Emirates, in which Arsenal failed to use their home advantage in London, Mikel Arteta’s side had to go to Germany and pick up a result. But they struggled to create.

Bayern looked pretty comfortable throughout as Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt impressed in the middle of the defence. Eventually, the entire tie was decided by one moment in the second half, Kimmich scoring.

Mikel Arteta made the surprise decision to place Takehiro Tomiyasu on the left of the defence, and he struggled all night. Fans weren’t impressed, and Matt Upson said he was “all over the place” last night.

Don Hutchison thinks Ben White was unprepared vs Bayern

Not for the first time, Bayern broke the press and got forward on Arsenal’s left. A cross was overhit and it fell to Raphael Guerreiro on the other flank. Ben White, 26, went to press him, but couldn’t stop the cross.

His dinked cross was headed home by Kimmich, powering an effort past David Raya. Arsenal could have done more to prevent the goal and Don Hutchison questioned White, on TNT Sports’ Highlights Show.

“Ben White has openly said he doesn’t watch much football, well study Raphael Guerreiro – he’s all left foot. He doesn’t show him on his right foot, doesn’t stop the cross,” Hutchison said, criticising White.

What Thomas Tuchel said about Arsenal man Ben White

White has been excellent for Arsenal all season, despite playing on the right of the defence – which of course, is not his natural position. Versatile, the former Leeds man continues to sparkle under Arteta.

Even White earned praise from Thomas Tuchel after Arsenal’s defeat in Germany, with Tuchel praising the work Bayern did against Arsenal’s right flank of White and Bukayo Saka – saying they are “really strong”.

A huge blow for Arsenal in a tie that they probably should have won, and would have been delighted when the draw was made. Bayern take on Real Madrid, who beat Manchester City in a penalty shootout.
