Arsenal saw their UEFA Champions League dreams crushed by Joshua Kimmich on Wednesday as Bayern Munich progressed into the semi-finals.

The Germany international powered a superb header beyond David Raya in the 63rd minute inside the Allianz Arena to secure a 1-0 win on the night and a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Back in 2020, the England international hopped onto X (known as Twitter at the time) to actually reveal that he loves Kimmich – while also calling the German a “top” footballer.

In full, Rice wrote: “Love Kimmich, top top player👏👏”

We wonder if the 25-year-old still feels that way after Wednesday night!

In truth, sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and admit defeat.

Bayern Munich looked far more assured of themselves compared to Arsenal, safe in the knowledge that experienced heads like Kimmich would be able to drag them into the semi-finals.

In regards to Arsenal, a lot of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI have never experienced the UEFA Champions League before this season, such as Rice and Bukayo Saka, but the defeat will surely act as a learning curve.

Bayern Munich No.6 could join Arsenal

Interestingly, Kimmich is actually a target for Arsenal – according to Football Transfers.

The 29-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, and he is yet to enter talks over a new deal amid huge uncertainty at Bayern Munich.

A story from the Daily Star even claimed that the Germany international could be signed for £25m this summer due to the contract situation.

Thomas Tuchel departs this summer, nobody knows who will replace the German, and Bayern Munich have just endured their worst season in over a decade, so there is every chance that Kimmich decides against renewing his contract.

Therefore, if Arsenal enjoy a strong end to the 2023/24 campaign, Edu could potentially convince the man from Rottweil to join.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Kimmich could even replace Jorginho amid links to Barcelona…
