Games leaving PS Plus Extra in May 2024 – say goodbye to some of the best Final Fantasy titles

By Scott McCrae

PS Plus is losing some of the most legendary RPGs of all time in May, so here's your call to action to check them out before they leave next month!

PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers have just been granted access to the PS Plus April 2024 games, but alongside that was the reveal of what games will be leaving PS Plus in May. While we usually lose out on a few solid titles each month, this month is a bloodbath, with 26 games on the chopping block – eight of which are from the Final Fantasy series. The PS1 trio of Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9, the PS2's 10, 10-2, and 12, and the mixed bag of PS4 games that is Final Fantasy 15 and World of Final Fantasy are all set to leave on Tuesday, May 21. For what it's worth, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin remain a part of the service for now.

If that wasn't bad enough PS Plus is also losing out on some absolutely banging indie titles, The Messenger, Absolver, My Friend Pedro, and The Artful Escape are all among the titles set to leave PS Plus Extra and Premium. So if you have any of these games on your radar, you've only got about a month left to check them out on the subscription!

Unfortunately, unlike Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus does not offer a discount if you want to purchase these games to keep them, and unlike the PS Plus Essential games, you won't be able to download these titles and keep them after they leave PS Plus.

Sadly, there's likely no chance you'll be able to make your way through all of these Final Fantasy games without severely neglecting your sleep and health, but if we had to recommend some, you should play Final Fantasy 9 and Final Fantasy 7. Although if you're the type of person who isn't keen on older games, Final Fantasy 12 and 15 are solid choices too. We'd also recommend checking out The Messenger and My Friend Pedro for some fast and frantic 2D action.
