US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has criticized congressional Republicans for blocking the extension of aid to Ukraine, stating that the delay on this matter is inexcusable, according to Tagesschau.
Yellen made the remarks following a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
She sharply criticized Republicans for stalling decisions related to Ukraine.
"The failure of House Republicans to act to support Ukraine in this pivotal moment of the war for so long has been inexcusable -- and detrimental to our national security," she said.
In turn, Shmyhal emphasized the importance of continued US support for Ukraine, especially in light of Russia's attempts to undermine the Ukrainian economy.
"We're counting on the United States to continue standing with Ukraine in our struggle," he said.
Blocking aid to Ukraine in the US
Congress has been ongoing for many months, with Republicans obstructing funding decisions.
Recently, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson took a step on this issue by proposing to divide the Senate bill into four separate documents, thereby separating the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine into its own bill.
Johnson also stated that providing lethal aid to Ukraine is critically important.
