The Russian Federation continues its attempts to capture the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. However, the situation is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational and strategic group of troops.
According to him, the situation around the city is currently quite difficult. Russia is trying to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region by any means. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are in control of the situation.
"There are no Russian troops in the city. Russia is still using its air superiority, missiles, and large-caliber artillery ammunition, trying to conduct assault operations," says Voloshyn.
He also says that the Russians are using their usual tactics - they are throwing unexploded ordnance at the city, destroying civilian infrastructure. The Russians are trying to completely destroy the city to take control of the piles of dust.
"In total, about 20 to 30 bombs, or even more, are dropped by Russian aviation on the positions of Ukrainian defenders and civilian infrastructure per day," the spokesperson says.
Russian offensive on Chasiv Yar
After the capture of Avdiivka, Russian troops continue to push further in the east to break through the defense. Chasiv Yar has become one of Russia's priorities.
Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the Russians plan to capture the town of Chasiv Yar near Bakhmut by May 9. This will create conditions for the enemy's further advance toward the Kramatorsk agglomeration.
The fiercest fighting is taking place in the areas of Pervomaiske and Vodiane, as well as east of Chasiv Yar.
