Today, April 18, the United States and Britain decided to impose new sanctions on Iran. This was in response to Tehran's recent attack on Israel, according to the website of the US Treasury Department and the British government.
It is noted that the United States has imposed sanctions on 16 individuals and two organizations that enable Iran to manufacture drones and engines for Shaheds.
Additionally, the US has added five companies from multiple jurisdictions to the sanctions list, which supply components for the production of steel to the Iranian company Khuzestan Steel Company.
"Iran’s metals sector generates the equivalent of several billion dollars in revenue annually, with the majority coming from steel exports", noted the US Treasury Department.
The United States wants to prevent Iran's harmful activities
Subsidiary companies of the Iranian automaker Bahman Group, which continue to provide material support to the IRGC, have also been subject to restrictions. The UK has also imposed sanctions on several Iranian military organizations, individuals, and legal entities involved in the production of drones and ballistic missiles.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated that the US uses new sanctions to degrade and disrupt key aspects of Tehran's harmful activities.
Western countries wanted to impose sanctions on Iran over its attack on Israel
Recently, Iran attacked Israel with missiles and drones, and Western countries helped repel the attack. Immediately afterward, there was talk of imposing new sanctions against Iran. First, this was announced by the White House, and then by the EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell.
Bloomberg also wrote that the G7 may impose sanctions against Iranian state-owned company Iran Air.
