‘He’s a bit frustrated’: Bastian Schweinsteiger says he’d love to see 26-year-old Man United player in a better team

Bastian Schweinsteiger has admitted he would love to see one Manchester United star play for a ‘better team’.

Manchester United have been a difficult watch under Erik ten Hag this season. The Red Devils were expected to kick on this term after a promising debut season for the Dutchman.

It hasn’t quite worked out as planned, with United currently sitting seventh in the Premier League.

Ten Hag’s future is up in the air after the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, with the new co-owners weighing up the possibility of a change in the dugout.

Certain players have struggled under the former Ajax boss this season and Marcus Rashford certainly falls into that category.

Schweinsteiger would love to see Rashford in a ‘better team’

Speaking on The Overlap, former United man Bastian Schweinsteiger delivered his verdict on Rashford’s recent form.

“I would love to see him in a better team where he gets the balls in the right moments,” he said. “In the past you don’t really see that, so if he would play for a different team maybe he would increase his levels a little bit more.

“He is still a player who can decide games but he doesn’t show it too many times because maybe also inside he’s a bit frustrated with how it is.”

Schweinsteiger was then asked if Rashford should look to leave Old Trafford this summer.

“I think he has to understand he can be the example,” the Bayern Munich legend responded. “You can handle frustration differently, someone needs to tell him and speak with him but also it has to come from his own.

“It’s very important. Sometimes you have coaches who tell you to stay left or stay right but you need to understand that if you play for Pep Guardiola you need to understand what he wants and then you have to do it.

“You cannot just go to someone and say I run fast and decide games, you need to help and he needs to understand why.”

Rashford’s concerning drop-off for United

Much has been made about Rashford’s willingness to track back and help his teammates in recent months.

But the biggest cause for concern has been his lack of effectiveness in the final third.

Just last season, the Englishman netted 30 times and provided nine assists in all competitions under Ten Hag. The 26-year-old has managed just 13 goal involvements this time around.

Gary Neville recently admitted he’s concerned about the United star’s recent form while there have been calls for Rashford to move on this summer.

While United have been disjointed this season, Rashford will have to reflect on his own level of performance as he’s been nowhere near his best of late.
