Thierry Henry makes surprise Arsenal claim after Champions League defeat to Bayern

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has now made one Premier League claim after the Gunners’ Champions League exit.

Arsenal were dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

A 1-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena was enough to sink the North London club, as they were eliminated from Europe’s elite club competition at the quarter-final stage by virtue of a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

It is fair to say that Mikel Arteta’s side did not produce their best performance in Germany last night. Bukayo Saka came under fire from Arsenal fans for his ineffective display, whilst the likes of Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli all also failed to break down the hosts’ defensive ranks.

Arsenal have now sustained back-to-back defeats for the first time in 2024, having previously been beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa. That result saw Arsenal surrender control of the Premier League title race to Manchester City. Arteta’s men must now win all of their remaining domestic games, whilst relying on the leaders to drop points, in order to stand any chance of being crowned champions.

Thierry Henry finds Premier League positive after Arsenal Champions League loss

Gary Neville is insistent that Arsenal are still in the Premier League title race, but in the space of just a week the Gunners have undeniably seen their prospects of landing any silverware this season diminish significantly.

Thierry Henry was also able to spot a potential positive in Arsenal’s Champions League exit. Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, the former striker said: “As an Arsenal fan, do I think that Arsenal could win the Champions League? Yes, because that is hope and wishing. Do I think, after that, we could?

“If I take my Arsenal hat away from my head, I’ve said it so many times, when we play three games a week we struggle. So maybe it can be a good thing now that we’re out for us in the Premier League. But, like I said, are we equipped to play every three days?”

How Arsenal must respond to Bayern Munich defeat

Due to their defeat in Germany, and subsequent failure to reach the Champions League semi-finals, that means there are now at least two less games for Arsenal contend with. From that perspective, though, the Gunners are unfortunate that Manchester City also crashed out of the Champions League at the same stage last night, as they will now also see their schedule de-congested in the same manner.

All that matters now is that Arsenal are able to bounce back from these disappointments and return to top form quickly. Their clash with Wolves on Saturday is a must-win encounter.
