‘Brilliant’: Pundit reckons Arsenal want to sign £40m player because he’s fantastic in the air

Arsenal were beaten by Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening, and after the game, the conversation once again turned to the fact that Arsenal don’t have a clinical striker in their squad.

Indeed, Arsenal failed to score a goal for the second game running, and after this match, there has been plenty of discussion about Arsenal’s firepower or lack thereof.

Inevitably, there have been calls for the Gunners to go out and sign a new centre-forward this summer, and speaking on ESPN, Stuart Robson has suggested that Arsenal may have a target in mind based purely on his aerial ability.

Arsenal want striker because he’s great in the air

Robson suggested that Arsenal want to sign Ivan Toney because he’s such a threat in the air.

“Maybe so yeah, Jesus isn’t playing particularly well at the moment. He did really well for Arsenal to begin with, people thought he’d turned the corner and thought he’d be the player he never really was at Man City. Havertz I don’t think he’s a centre-forward of the highest quality. I think they need a centre-forward of the highest quality or a striker who’s brilliant in the air, and that’s why they’re looking at Toney I imagine,” Robson said.

Ivan Toney would add a new dynamic

There are a number of reasons why a club like Arsenal would want to sign a player like Ivan Toney, but his aerial ability does play a part for sure.

The Brentford striker is fantastic with his head. He may not be the tallest, but he’s very strong and he times his umps to perfection.

As things stand, Arsenal don’t really have that focal-point target man in their squad, but if they brought the £40m man to the Emirates, they’d have a new dynamic in their attack and that would make them a much scarier team to face.
