School bus crash with van injures 4 people, including high school student

A van struck a school bus Thursday morning in Manchester, leaving four people hurt.

Four people were injured — including a high school student — when a van cut off a mini school bus while turning onto Route 70 in Manchester on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The crash took place at 6:40 a.m. when a commercial van turning left from southbound Route 571 onto Route 70 east struck the northbound bus, Manchester police said.

The 54-year-old school bus driver, a Manchester woman, and the 60-year-old bus aide, a Lakehurst woman, were brought to an area hospital for facial bruises and a hip injury, respectively.

One of the two Manchester High School students aboard was brought to the same hospital with chest pains. The other student was not injured.

The 27-year-old Jackson man behind the wheel of the HVA service van suffered hip and hand injuries. He has not yet been issued summonses but police said he failed to yield the right of way.

All four are in stable condition.

The crash was the second of the week involving students en route to school on Route 571. Eleven children and both drivers were hospitalized Tuesday when a school van and a car collided in an intersection 2 miles to the west of Thursday’s collision.
