Canadian Fox News guest: Hitting Trump with 'porn star cases' 'hurts the American brand'

Canadian businessman and television personality Kevin O'Leary complained during an appearance on Fox News Thursday that America's international reputation was being damaged by former President Donald Trump being prosecuted for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up hush-money payments to an adult film star.

During a roundtable discussion hosted by Harris Faulkner, O'Leary seemed to suggest that former presidents shouldn't be prosecuted unless they commit truly serious offenses such as murder.

"We don't do this in America!" complained the Canadian businessman. "We don't go after the office of the president with porn star cases! We give a broad swathe of latitude. And if you're an ex-president and you murdered somebody, I get it, or been accused of murder. But what is this? This hurts the American brand!"

O'Leary then claimed that many people in foreign countries expressed bewilderment to him about "this porn star thing" when he was recently traveling abroad.

In fact, Trump's trial related to hush-money payments is far from the only legal trouble he faces, and many legal experts have called the other charges that have been leveled against him — including allegedly trying to defraud the United States with a scheme to illegally stay in power and allegedly obstructing government efforts to retrieve top-secret government documents from his Mar-a-Lago resort — as significantly more serious.
