Bruno Fernandes would never do what Kevin De Bruyne did against Real Madrid

As Manchester City crashed out of the Champions League, Kevin de Bruyne just showed Bruno Fernandes’ worth to Manchester United.

From a neutral perspective, it was a pretty good night of Champions League action on Wednesday.

It saw the two Premier League clubs left in the competition go crashing out, with Arsenal succumbing to Bayern Munich and then Manchester City defeated on penalties by Real Madrid.

For Manchester United fans, this will have been a decent night to watch although there was one particular moment during the City vs Madrid game which sparked conversation.

Rather it had to do with one City player, particularly what he did which set Bruno Fernandes so very far ahead of him.

What did Kevin de Bruyne do to Manchester City vs Real Madrid?

On Wednesday night, it was City’s quarter-final against Madrid and it was a cagey affair, which couldn’t have been more different to the first-leg.

1-1 was the scoreline which brought the game into extra-time and eventually penalties.

Given the gravity of the game, it was somewhat surprising to see Pep Guardiola withdraw his two key players in Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

After the match, Guardiola explained: “They asked me to go out. They could not continue.”

This is bizarre, particularly for De Bruyne who came off in the second half of extra time, conveniently avoiding having to take part in the penalty shoot-out.

This situation has reminded us just how lucky we are to have Fernandes who’d never leave his side short like that.

Bruno Fernandes would never do this to Manchester United

While De Bruyne requested to be taken off, the situation couldn’t have been more different if Fernandes had been in that situation.

We saw this in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Liverpool, as Fernandes spent much of the game limping and practically playing on one leg, while also doing a job for his team in central defence.

Fernandes is a true leader and like him or not, would give everything for United which is something that De Bruyne wouldn’t give to City.

We don’t think Fernandes would ask to come off even if he couldn’t walk, he’s a warrior and we’re blessed to have him at the club.
