What Lucas Paqueta did during West Ham vs Leverkusen last night speaks volumes

West Ham United really missed the suspended Lucas Paqueta during our 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen last night.

Lucas Paqueta picked up a silly yellow card during West Ham United’s 2-0 Europa League defeat to Leverkusen out in Germany last week.

As a result, he was unavailable for selection for last night’s game, much to the annoyance of Hammers boss David Moyes.

Don’t get me wrong, he was really poor against Xabi Alonso’s side during the first-leg, but we missed his ability to make something happen out of nothing in the final third last night.

The Brazilian play-maker is an enigmatic talent, and can produce a moment of magic from absolutely nowhere.

Sure, as much as he thrills, he frustrates in equal measure. You have to accept that form players like him though.

How we could have done with Paqueta last night. He may well have made the difference when we were chasing the all important second goal.

However, the 26-year-old former Lyon man is far from perfect…

The Brazilian incurred the wrath of the traveling Hammers fans out in Germany last week, when he walked straight down the tunnel after being substituted late on.

And now, he has angered the West Ham faithful yet again…

What Lucas Paqueta did during West Ham vs Leverkusen

As Hammers fans, we can all be proud of the players for the effort they gave last night.

The boys had the Leverkusen player on the ropes inside the first-half and I have to say, the referee’s abysmal performance didn’t help us one little bit.

It was a valiant effort from the lads, but one of our players really didn’t cover himself in glory.

Lucas Paqueta wasn’t playing, but something that he did told us all we need to know.

Sean Whetstone posted a picture of all the West Ham players who couldn’t play in attendance at the London Stadium last night.

The likes of Alphonse Areola and Emerson Palmieri were watching on from the stands.

However, Paqueta was conspicuous in his absence. That speaks volumes really doesn’t it. Personally, I don’t think his heart or his head are with us any more, with a summer move to Manchester City on the cards (The Guardian).

Lucas Paqueta really should have been at the London Stadium to support his West Ham teammates against Leverkusen last night. The fact that he wasn’t tells us all we need to know as far as I’m concerned.
