"We didn't have..." - Clement nails Gers biggest problem, Koppen has to get it right

On its own, Rangers performance against Dundee was far from as bad is as being made out with Philippe Clement right with some of his analysis of the game.

The Gers boss did see a reaction from the weekend and we did look better in terms of shape, but it was still miles away from what is needed to win the league.

The squad is a mess with leaders letting the side down and it was a familiar Rangers problem that Philippe Clement identified as the biggest problem.

Rangers have issues that even Philippe Clement can’t fix

Even if he is our penalty taker, that our right-back is one of our top goalscorers without the spot-kicks tells its own story.

Particularly in the wide areas, players like Ross McCausland, Scott Wright and Rabbi Matondo simply haven’t done enough over the course of the season.

Yes, Matondo has a decent strike rate, but he just can’t keep himself fit.

Fabio Silva has flattered to deceive since joining in January on loan too, at times he has shown flashes of what he is capable of, however, a player with his potential should be causing havoc against teams like Ross County and Dundee.

Kemar Roofe has started less than 10 games in the last two seasons and for all that he puts a shift in, we know the deficiencies of Cyriel Dessers.

The chance that he missed at Ross County is looking even worse now.

Speaking after the game, Philippe Clement was right, Rangers did create enough chances to win the game, but it was a case of the same old story that we have seen all season:

“You need to be decisive and we had enough chances to kill the game off, but yeah, there were a few times they were really lucky in their defensive way, good goalkeeper saves.

“We need to take that moments and today we didn’t have the spark to make the big difference or when it happened there was somebody standing on the line to block the shot or header.”

Clement is working with both hands tied behind his back

Getting the first goal is huge in domestic football, killing games off with a second is just as important as we saw up in Dingwall.

Against Dundee, Abdallah Sima had a couple of great chances to open the scoring, as did Connor Goldson and Tom Lawrence, we just couldn’t get the breakthrough.

The priority in the summer has to be a revamp of the forward line.

Yes, there are issues in defence and midfield, but without difference makers in attack, we will keep having the same problems.

Players who can create better chances, who can beat defenders and score goals.

Think Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi from our last title win with two strikers like Roofe and Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe backing them up.

It’s not rocket science.

Look at that season, we had creativity and goals all through the team.

When was the last time we scored a well worked goal from open play this season?

It’s been about four games now.

I feel sorry for Philippe Clement; his leaders are hiding, his forwards aren’t scoring or creating goals and his midfield is almost non-existent.

Goals win games though and as the gaffer says, we just aren’t scoring anywhere near enough of them.
