Britain pledges nearly £150 million (over $180 million) to bolster Ukraine's energy sector, according to Neil Holland, the UK's permanent representative to the OSCE.
"The UK is intensifying efforts to support Ukraine and has committed nearly £150m to bolster Ukraine’s energy sector. We are continuing to work with G7+ partners to help Ukraine repair, protect and build back its energy system," he said.
Holland added that Britain intends to provide Ukraine with the support necessary for self-defense and to push Russia out of Ukrainian sovereign territory.
"This is the only path to a just and lasting peace," he said.
Situation with electricity in Ukraine
Over the past months, aggressors have intensified attacks on Ukrainian territory, using kamikaze drones and rockets. The Russian terrorists primarily targeted the country's energy infrastructure, leading to power outages in several regions.
For instance, on April 11, the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant located in the Kyiv region, which was the largest electricity supplier to the Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions, was completely destroyed by Russian strikes.
Herman Halushchenko, the head of Ukraine's Ministry of Energy, said that current Russian shelling has caused more consequences than attacks in the winter of 2022-2023.
